Writing a biography with TimeToast
Hello my people,
Today I have been using TimeToast with my classroom and it has been an amazing experience! The learning objective was to understand a text and mediate it into another format developing our digital competence. Afterwards, students will be using their timelines to write a biography.
TimeToast has proven to be an excellent tool, as it is intuitive, dynamic and cooperative. My students have really enjoyed working with it and, by doing the timeline, they have now a wonderful support to complete their writing task.
In order to set up the activity, I had to:
1. Create 5 short texts about creative people (football players, singers, dancers, etc.). that my students could enjoy and understand.
2. Prebook the computers to use them in the classroom.
3. Divide students by groups depending on their interests and give each group the text about the person that they wanted to learn more about.
4. Use the main computer and proyector to teach them how to sign up, sign in and create events in a timeline.
5. Create a task in Google Classroom, so they could send me their final results.
Some students had problems signing up, but they helped each other and they were all so motivated! It was a fantastic experience and they really enjoyed doing the writing task with this digital tool.
Next time, I will give my students two lessons, instead of one, so they can have more time and we have some space for connection problems or challenges with the app. However, using TimeToast has clearly helped me achieve three main learning objectives:
1. Motivate my students to read and write in English.
2. Encourage their digital competence by using new digital resources and websites.
3. Help them understand the main features of a biography and a timeline.
Here you can see some of the incredible results:
See you soon,
Carmen
