Final task: Interaction

Hello my people,

For this final task, I have chosen the Edpuzzle activity mentioned in the blog English Corner. I really appreciated how this tool was used to enhance interactive learning and comprehension skills, which is why I chose to build my final task around it.

I really enjoyed the way it allows teachers to create interactive video lessons, adding questions and pauses for reflection, which is a great way to engage students actively during the lesson.

The main objective of my final task is to improve students' listening comprehension and critical thinking skills using Edpuzzle.

Name of the project: interactive movie scene analysis
1. I chose a short scene from the popular TV series, “Friends”, that is appropriate for my students' level.  2. I created an Edpuzzle video where students had to watch the scene at home, incorporating what we have learnt regarding Flipped learning.
3. Then, in the classroom, they had to discuss and answer questions focused on:
    o Specific vocabulary
o General comprehension: What happened in the scene?
o Critical thinking: How would you react if you were in the character's position?
o Discussion: Did you like it? Not?
4. Class Discussion: After completing the answers, students will be divided into small groups to discuss their answers and interpretations, using a Think-Pair-Share structure. This will encourage peer learning and help improve their speaking and listening skills.
5. Reflection: Each student will have to write a brief reflection on Google Drive on what they learned from the video and the activity, focusing on how it helped them with listening comprehension and critical thinking. This is an excellent way to improve their use of Google resources, while fostering their digital literacy.

I think this activity is effective because it combines listening, critical thinking, and discussion to make the session dynamic. Moreover, Edpuzzle provides real-time feedback, allowing me to track student progress and adjust instruction as needed.

Finally, it encourages student engagement by making them active participants rather than passive listeners and they get to know an important part of North American culture, Friends!

Here I am going to paste the reflection of two of my students. Although the second one presents some grammar mistakes, accuracy was not the objective of the written reflection:

1. After doing this activity, I feel that my listening skills have improved. Watching the scene from Friends was fun, and I could understand more than I thought I would. The questions during the video helped me focus on important words and details. I liked thinking about how I would react in the characters' situation; it made me think more deeply. The group discussion was helpful too because I could share my ideas with my classmates and hear different opinions. I now feel more confident in listening and understanding conversations in English, and I enjoyed learning in such an interactive way.

2. I like the activity because I watch the video of Friends. It was funny but a little difficult. The questions help me to understand more better. I learn new words but I don’t understand everything. The best part was the discuss. I talk with my friends and we say what we think. I think if I was the character, I will do different. I like to watch video in English because is more easy. I feel happy because I learn more words, but I need to practice more. I think the activity help me, but I want to do more.

See you soon,
Carmen Campoy

Your blog provides some positive aspects as:
    • Innovative Use of Technology: You effectively incorporate digital tools such as Edpuzzle and StoryJumper into your teaching strategies.
    • Detailed Project Descriptions: Each blog entry provides a comprehensive breakdown of classroom activities, including objectives, procedures, and reflections. This level of detail offers valuable insights for fellow educators seeking to implement similar approaches in their own classrooms.
    • Focus on Skill Development: The blog emphasizes enhancing various language skills, particularly oral communication.
However, there are some areas for improvement:
    • Visual Engagement: Incorporating multimedia elements such as images, videos, or infographics could make the blog more visually appealing and engaging for readers.
    • Interactive Features: Enabling comments or discussion sections on the blog would encourage interaction.
    • Regular Updates: Maintaining a consistent posting schedule can help retain reader interest.
